Endoscopic resection (ER; Endoscopic submucosal dissection [ESD] or endoscopic mucosal resection [EMR]) is the standard treatment for selected cases of early gastric cancer (EGC). Evolution of ER techniques and accessories has expanded treatment indications. However, the data on the long-term outcome is still limited and controversies exist regarding the safety of treating EGC beyond AI. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the long-term outcomes of extended indication (EI) versus absolute indication (AI) of endoscopic resection for early gastric cancer (EGC), to identify the endoscopic feasibility and safety according to the indication, and to provide appropriate recommendations for indications.
